When NBA Stars Inspire DIY: Sneaker Repair Clinic For Youth

The Golden State Warriors are bringing new life to old kicks — and empowering local youth while they’re at it.

In a creative community initiative, the NBA team hosted a hands-on sneaker repair clinic, teaching young fans how to clean, patch, and personalize their worn shoes. The goal? Give sneakers a second life and inspire a sustainable, self-expressive mindset.

This one-of-a-kind workshop took place at the Warriors’ Thrive City, in partnership with custom sneaker artist Joshua “Kickstradomis” Vides and the nonprofit Good Good Good. Young participants got to scrub, paint, and relace their kicks with expert guidance—transforming tired sneakers into fresh, funky statements of personal style.

But this event was about way more than just shoes. It was about showing kids how to take pride in what they already own, express themselves creatively, and make eco-conscious choices through upcycling. In a world obsessed with the “new,” this was a reminder that old things — just like people — can be remade with a little love and imagination.

“It’s not about the brand or price tag,” said one organizer. “It’s about the story you create with every step you take in them.”

It blends sports, sustainability, and creativity in a way that resonates with young people. It’s a slam dunk for life skills, confidence, and community. Plus, fewer sneakers in landfills means a win for the planet.
